The arrival of quantum computing presents one of the most significant cryptographic challenges of our time. Even if the advanced quantum computers that may break our current encryption are still years away, the threat is already influencing cybersecurity strategies today. Sensitive data collected now can be stored and decrypted in the future once quantum capabilities become available. This risk is also commonly known as “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” (HNDL).
For Malaysian National Critical Information Infrastructure (NCII) organisations, the need to prepare is especially urgent. Critical sectors such as government, telecommunications, finance, energy, healthcare and transportation rely heavily on cryptographic systems to protect sensitive data, digital identities, financial systems and operational technologies. As organisations begin their Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) journey, a common question lingers: should they follow NIST standards or MySEAL requirements?
The answer is not a choice between one or the other. Rather, both play important roles in Malaysia’s quantum-safe future.
